How can Nature-based solutions help Mediterranean regions adapt to a changing climate? And how can research better respond to the needs of the people and territories putting these solutions into practice?
These questions will be at the heart of the DRYAD Mid-term Event, taking place on 29 September 2026 in Lisbon, Portugal. The event will bring together DRYAD partners, local stakeholders from different Mediterranean regions to exchange experiences, discuss regional challenges and explore how Nature-based Solutions (NbS) can contribute to more climate-resilient ecosystems.
From regional challenges to solutions in action
The day will begin at the Instituto Superior de Agronomia (ISA) with a national stakeholder workshop for Portuguese participants, focusing on the challenges and perspectives of the Alentejo region. This session will provide a space to discuss local needs and priorities and help ensure that DRYAD’s work responds to the realities of the territories where solutions are being developed and demonstrated.
The DRYAD Mid-term Event will then bring together stakeholders from different regions and sectors across the Mediterranean. Partners will present key achievements, ongoing activities and the challenges ahead, opening the discussion to regional stakeholders. The session will provide an opportunity to share what DRYAD is developing, explore how these solutions can support local communities and, above all, listen to regional perspectives.
Seeing Nature-based Solutions in action
The second part of the event will move from discussion to demonstration with a guided visit to Companhia das Lezírias, one of DRYAD’s Pilot Demonstration Areas in the Alentejo region. Participants will discover how Nature-based Solutions are being tested and demonstrated in a real Mediterranean agro-silvo-pastoral landscape, providing an opportunity to see DRYAD’s work in action.
By combining regional dialogue, project results and a first-hand look at solutions being demonstrated in the field, the DRYAD Mid-term Event aims to strengthen connections between research, local knowledge and practical climate adaptation.
